Open Door Policy (ODP) - A Modern Bistro with Rustic Twist

It's Open Door Policy! I used to come here often as it was my safe choice whenever I want to eat out on weekends. Well, here I am again, after almost 1.5 years I guess? The place is located at Tiong Bahru area, Yong Siak Street to be exact. The bistro is owned by Spa Esprit Group, the one behind Forty Hands, Tiong Bahru Bakery, Common Man Coffee Roasters, and many more. It's just a few walks from Tiong Bahru Market. And yes, you have to take the bus from Tiong Bahru MRT station to get there.
The restaurant's interior is industrial and rustic. I usually prefer to come here for lunch as it looks prettier when the sunlight coming in through the glass ceiling.
Spicy lamb spring rolls served with fresh salsa, yogurt and avocado
S$20

Our first appetizer was lamb spring rolls, to be honest, that night I wasn't really in the mood for lambs, but the menu looked interesting and so we ordered. The spring rolls were great and crispy, the lamb meat was not as spicy as I though it would be. It blends well with the sauce and salsa.
Guacamole risotto with fresh chilli and poached hens egg
S$20

If you're a close friend of mine, you would know that I'm crazy about Risotto, especially when they involve guacamole in it! When the dish arrived and we had our first try, it was quite dissapointed. It might be because I was expecting too high. The risotto was cooked perfectly but frankly the overall taste was a bit bland for me. It was not a bad dish, but certainly not something that I would order again.

Kale Broth, crispy kale and smoked quail's egg
S$20

And then we had our soup. The soup reminded me of their watercress soup in the past, the concept is kind of the same, only this one was using kale instead. In overall the soup tasted just nice, the whole bowl got its texture right, the kale was absolutely crispy and all. However, we must eat the soup fast, because when the broth gets colder, it tends to taste bitter.

Pickled pearl barley salad with mackerel, tofu, ginger, cucumber, nori, puffed rice, and sesame cracker
S$22

You don't like to eat salad? Well, you certainly will like this one. Healthy, light, and most importantly, delicious! There were lots of different textures in one bowl and I love it. I especially like the mackerel, so soft and light, not smelly at all. Really recommend this one for you to try.

Pan seared tuna with olive tapenade, baby fennel, aubergine caviar, boulangere potatoes & sauce vierge
S$30

Not a big fan of tuna, but my boyfriend ordered this and I tried. The tuna meat was fine, my boyfriend quite like the entire plate combination, but I don't really fancy the combo of olive tapenade and aubergine caviar together. Plus the sauce, the overall thing was too sour for me already.

Roast Salmon, sauteed spinach, babaganoush, cucumber raita
S$29

For my main course I ordered roast salmon. It was cooked pretty well, but I've eaten roast salmon that was cooked better. It matched with the cucumber raita, however I don't like the pairing between the salmon and babaganoush (roasted eggplant-tahini dip). If I ever want to involve any meat to eat with babaganoush, I might choose red meat instead.
Apple crumble with vanilla custard
S$15

As we were already really full, we only ordered one dessert. It was a bowl full of warm goodness, very comforting and not too sweet. So so yummy, and I actually wanted to order a scoop of ice cream to be eaten with it, but at the end we never order because we were already too full.

This bistro seems a bit tired, the food is still as exciting as ever, but in my honest opinion, they might to have more twist in their menu to keep the guests interested. In conclusion, the whole experience was satisfying enough for me.
